Ryan Broekhoff made two clutch free throws inside the final 24 seconds to ensure Lokomotiv Kuban won their 13th straight game and maintain their unbeaten run in the EuroCup.
Lokomotiv Kuban won their third straight Top 16 Group G EuroCup contest and extended their unblemished record to an amazing 13-0, courtesy of a 69-64 home win over Cedevita Zagreb. The home side were in total control of the contest throughout the first three-quarters, leading by 18 points at the final change. However Cedevita finished with a flourish, unleashing a 26-13 final quarter that was fueled by Roko Ukic and Karlo Zganec.
Lifting their defensive intensity, Lokomotiv struggled to find ways to score in the final period as Cedevita closed to within 65-64 with 22.5 seconds to go. That’s when Australian Boomer Ryan Broekhoff found himself at the free throw line where he hit both. The visitors missed a chance to tied the game from downtown in the dying seconds, resulting in a 3 point win [video highlights].
Broekhoff was once again instrumental in the win. He drained a three-pointer to help put his side up by 19 points in the third term, before securing the win at the line with two clutch free throws. He finished with 8 points that included 4-5 from the charity stripe, while also adding 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal in yet another solid performance. Shooting better than 53% from downtown this season, Broekhoff went 0-2 from distance as his team also struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 5-22 for the game.
