Frankson Blues arrive to the NBA
Ahead of their NBL v NBA historical clash against Oklahoma City Thunder, Melbourne United and Frankston Blues’s legend David Andersen and recently announced Under 16.1 Boys Coach Mike Kelly, Chesapeake Energy Arena.
After arriving into Oklahoma yesterday evening, Melbourne United spent the morning on court for their first and only practice session in the US ahead of Monday’s clash.
The team was in good spirits and moving well – a very pleasing sign for the coaches given the 30 hour journey that had taken place the day previous.
The team went through several plays and rotations, and spent time adjusting to the new ball and court markings as per the NBA rules.
Unfortunately during practice young-gun Peter Hooley was the latest casualty to go down with an ankle injury which will rule him out for Monday’s game and see him sidelined for between 2 – 4 weeks.
Development players Sam Short and Tohi Smith-Milner will replace Hooley and Chris Goulding who also missed the trip after undergoing surgery to remove his appendix on Friday.
To assist with the numbers, Melbourne United has brought in local players Dillon Stith, Andre Dawkins and Antonius Cleveland for the game. Stith spent time with Melbourne over the last few months as a training player whilst Dawkins comes in from the G League. Antonius Cleveland will be an exciting addition to the squad after he narrowly missed an NBA spot following the Golden State Warriors recent training camp.
Melbourne United will take on Oklahoma City Thunder tomorrow afternoon at 2.00pm local time (6.00am Monday AEDT) live on ESPN.
